    Metabolism

Metabolism refers to various chemical reactions in the body, including the metabolism that breaks down food to produce energy and the metabolism that builds new tissue and repairs damaged tissue. These reactions require the collaboration of a large number of enzymes and other chemicals in the body to complete.

Metabolism can be divided into two parts: vital activity metabolism and nutrient metabolism. Vital activity metabolism involves basic biological processes such as respiration and heartbeat, all of which require energy. Nutritional metabolism involves the process of digesting, absorbing and using nutrients from food to maintain normal physiological functions of the body.

The rate of metabolism varies from person to person and is influenced by several factors such as body size, gender, age, muscle mass, lifestyle and genetics. Ageing leads to a decrease in metabolic rate, while an increase in muscle mass increases metabolic rate. Lifestyle, such as regular aerobic exercise and regular eating habits, can also improve metabolism.

Metabolism is not only a chemical reaction in humans, but is also present in other organisms. In plants, the process of metabolism includes photosynthesis and respiration. Photosynthesis uses light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic matter, while producing oxygen. Respiration, on the other hand, uses organic matter to produce energy and carbon dioxide.

Overall, metabolism is a process necessary for the body to sustain life, and it determines our body's energy expenditure and physiological functions. By understanding and improving our metabolism, we can better protect our health.
