Propionibacterium acnes Cloaked with ZnAlLavered Double Hvdroxides Svneraistically Inhibits Tumor Growth and Metastasis
Anaerobic bacteria activate the immune response to tumors, yet intravenous administration of the bacteria causes systemic inflammation. In this study, live Propionibacterium acnes (Pacnes) was combined with zinc and aluminum laminated double argon oxides (LDHs) to construct an effective system that synergistically inhibits tumor growth and metastasis. p. acnes carries LDHs to reach and penetrate hypoxic tumor tissue. The metabolism of Pseudomonas acnes and the pH-responsive degradation of LDHs generate reactive ammonia and reactive oxygen species, which trigger tumor cell death. In addition, the breakdown of LDHs exposes P. acnes, which activates an immune response to prevent the recurrence of distant tumors. The Pacnes@LDHs biosystem developed in this study exhibited significant antinociceptive effects both in vitro and in vivo.
